Hot weather is here!
This means that plenty of barbeques, grilling parties, patio suppers, pool play-dates, and outdoor weddings are on their way.
Whether you are planning an event, you are part of a corporate marketing team working on new promotional pieces, or you are just stocking up on house goods, when making your TO-DO list, coasters should be considered necessary supplies.
Coasters are ideal for several reasons - at events they show you pay attention to the little details and they obviously keep messy water rings to a minimum.
And you can tie a stack with a ribbon for a cute parting gift, or print your company logo on them for those large 'family-day' affairs.
Best of all, coasters fit into the category of small items that everyone will need at some point in their own home - which is why so many people ask for, or shamelessly steal, them from so many restaurants and parties.
Corporate Uses:
In some cases, coasters are considered part of the marketing material packet. They are a marketing piece just like the business cards and brochures are.
If you are part of a company, restaurant or event planning service that will use coasters as a marketing component, make sure the design correctly reflects your business.
This means, that like business cards, you want your coaster to have the correct logos, font and colors.
Event Planning:
If you are planning an big wedding or similarly large event, chances are you will want to add this little detail. And, because they are usually cheaper than say, the flowers or food, you can save some pennies.
If you have a limited budget, why not try a DIY version, made out of cork? Or saw some round slices off a larger-sized branch for an outdoor option, like above.
Try pieces of slate or chalkboard - provided with chalk, of course.
Other options include: ceramic tiles, heavy-duty glass wedges (with dulled or rounded corners), or even some types of garden-variety flat stones. Do you have other cool ideas for DIY coasters?
I like to collect coasters from travels or events so that each one has it's own story, and then mix + match them when I'm throwing a house party. What do you do? Do you think coasters are still relevant?
